Artist Profile Ted Gilmer's skills as a craftsman were learned from half a lifetime of being busy with wood and leather. With one foot in the past, his designs are reminiscence of an earlier time, when things were simpler, a time when the most beautiful things were made by hand. ..."Something that is beautiful to behold, feel and touch, and then be very functional in daily use, makes a truly wonderful and fulfilling piece of art. We take pride in the quality of our handmade pieces knowing they should give a lifetime of beauty and use". Ted Gilmer makes his home in Northern Michigan with his wife and daughter, and runs their business from a rural studio near Empire, in Leelanau County. Ted's designs are successful in many different retail venues. He has enjoyed success on an international level, with some of his clients coming from Europe, Japan and Africa.
